Immature
with injured leg at Speyside, Tobago, 16 October 2000. Photo © by Floyd
Hayes. This bird was found by Martyn Kenefick, Floyd Hayes, Bryan
Sanasie, Brett Hayes, and Newton George. Note the pale legs (right leg was
injured), dark bill, lack of a superciliary, and buffy colouration
distinctive of this species; the bill is shorter than that of a Ruff (Philomachus pugnax).
The pale margins of the fresh wing feathers indicate that this is an
immature. Although there are numerous sight records for T&T, this
represents the first documented record. The same observers had found seven Buff-breasted Sandpipers on the previous day (15 October 2000) at Crown Point, Tobago.
